Week 2, Day 4

I had t-shirts and fabric markers ready to go at 9am this morning.

The girls decorated their shirts for almost an hour, and the results blew me away. I even got to sit down for awhile and colour my own! I had absolutely nothing to do with their designs or ideas. I am thrilled at how focused they were.

In keeping with the "nature" theme, we made bird feeders from pinecones, peanut butter, and bird seed. We went next door for the pinecones and had some time on the swing first. I tried it as well, and felt a bit seasick. I'm not sure how I would do with roller coasters anymore.

All set up:

The girls posing with their bird feeders:

One of my favourite activities with the kids is one that is fun for them but also helps to get a job done. After making bird feeders, we went to the edge of the woods and collected a bunch of sticks and branches that had fallen off trees in recent wind storms. We brought the sticks into the backyard and created 2 "dens" (aka "forts"). Tomorrow we will cover them with a blanket for a morning of fun. Guess what my girls will help me do on the weekend? One of their favourite jobs is to help me to break up sticks and place them in boxes for kindling for the winter.

Classic "lean-to":

Nice and Cozy:
